ALPINE A110 SPRINTS AWAY WITH THE TITLE OF 'BEST DREAM CAR' AT THE INAUGURAL AUTOCAR BRITAIN'S BEST CARS AWARDS

  • Alpine A110 wins the ‘Best Dream Car’ category at the Autocar Britain’s Best Cars Awards
  • Judges praise the A110 for its agility, clever packaging and driving enjoyment
  • Priced from £48,140 OTR

The Alpine A110 has reaffirmed its desirability and sheer driver appeal after scooping the ‘Best Dream Car’ Award at the first Autocar Britain’s Best Cars Awards.

Prior to revealing the A110 as its ‘Best Dream Car’, the renowned motoring magazine explained that the winner would be “The epic car you would raid the pension to keep forever – and still drive every day”. Priced from £48,140 OTR, the A110 fought off stiff competition to take the title and add another coveted award to its trophy cabinet.

The magazine judges heaped praise on the A110 for its intelligent construction and drivability. Mark Tisshaw, Editor of Autocar, said: “While the majority of sports cars fidget, shuffle and bounce down a bad road, the A110 glides. It does something that no small sports car has allowed itself to do for a generation: move on its suspension, to prove once again that driving enjoyment doesn’t have to mean rock-hard springing. It can do this because it’s light, of course. At just 1103kg, the entry-level A110 sits on a bespoke aluminium architecture that’s barely over 4.1m long and less than 1.8m wide. Given there are double wishbones all round, despite the A110 having only two seats, it’s an impressive bit of packaging.”

He continued: “It has just the right amount of power, too. It’s a road car first and foremost, so 249bhp and the kind of acceleration that comes with that are enjoyable without being antisocial; usable without being utterly illegal within a few seconds. We say it often, but we’re not sure manufacturers are getting it. The lower a car’s limits, the more accessible it is to normal drivers on nice roads. That said, the A110 is also a rather nice track car, incredibly happy to rotate on turn-in and slide around a little.”

Autocar has established Britain’s Best Cars Awards to highlight the very best mainstream cars, the winners being chosen by the magazine’s testers with the brief to put cars that everyday motorists want to own and drive in the spotlight. As well as their objective merits, the winning vehicles have also been selected on such criteria as how likeable and enjoyable they are.

Patrick Marinoff, Managing Director, Alpine commented: “We’re delighted to accept this latest award for the A110, especially as it epitomises what we set out to achieve when we developed it – a truly memorable driver’s car that delivers the perfect blend of exhilarating driving dynamics and everyday enjoyment. It’s very rewarding that the A110 continues to be so popular with sports car enthusiasts and to have it recognised as a ‘dream car’ is a fantastic compliment.”

The A110 is available in five trims – A110 Pure, A110 Légende, A110 S, A110 Légende GT and A110 Color Edition 2020. The Pure encapsulates the driver-focused spirit of the original Berlinette, whilst the A110 Légende has more of a touring character with sophisticated interior materials and six-way adjustable comfort seats. The A110 S delivers more power and bespoke chassis settings for an even more intense Alpine driving experience.

New for 2020, the limited edition A110 Légende GT features bespoke styling elements for the interior and exterior and brings new levels of luxury to the Alpine range. Only available until the end of the year, the A110 Color Edition 2020 is based on the A110 S and is finished in Sunflower Yellow, making it the most vibrant A110 ever.
